Quick Tip: Humping

Male, female, desexed or undesexed, it doesn’t seem to matter, there are some dogs that hump. And it’s rarely socially acceptable to us humans.

This behaviour is rarely sexual. It is often the result of over excitement, can be a learned behaviour or simply feels good.

If the “victim” dog doesn’t like it, it should give indication, and if the humper doesn’t listen it is appropriate to intervene.

Even better, watch for behaviours before it happens – the excitement building for example – and  stop it before it happens, by stopping the game, redirecting to something else, or separating the dogs for a period.

Intervention should teach the humper it’s unacceptable behaviour, while prevention should reduce the occurrences.
